Hay Supplies and distribution centres

The generosity of the horse community and businesses has been amazing and we were able to keep all centres stocked. As we move to the recovery stage Toowoomba Showgrounds is now the only distribution centre operating. We have a storage of hay for the worst affected in the worst areas. All others are now being encouraged by us to go to their local produces and support their local business. If you need financial assistance please read further down. We are there if you need short term assistance with feed supplies, and we have received many generous donations of rugs, halters, bandages and simple medical supplies etc. Please make applications by emailing president@qldhorsecouncil.com

Lost Horse Register

The Qld Horse Council is handling the lost horse register, contact point for lost horses, found horses and found dead horses. Email president@qldhorsecouncil.com or call Debbie Dekker 07 54646785 or Biosecurity Qld 132523. Also as an online connection we are working with PET ReCONNECT and their service also includes domestic pets. As many identifying features are required , we want to be able to bring some closure to owners who have lost horses and also have accurate figures of lost horses at the end of this. Photos if possible please for accurate identification. If you have found your horse or found the owner could you also email that information through. Sadly we have in excess of 170 horses reported dead, and many were unidentifiable.

Horse Health Issues

With all this rain and the abundance of grass there are some health issues that will and are occurring. Those horses that were standing belly deep in water will very soon be standing belly deep in grass. Watch out for laminitis, and shutting them in yards or stables for a good period of the day may necessary. Rain scald and mud fever will also be a problem. Ross River fever is also a possibility. EIA is a serious notifiable disease that is endemic to certain parts of Qld and very rarely moves out of these regions, but it is spread by insects that thrive in flood areas and has occasionally occurred in other parts of Qld. Please read our EIA fact sheet.
