Juniors
The National Rodeo Association is widely acknowledged as a leading rodeo association in Australia. Boasting a substantial membership base and affiliating many prominent rodeo dates throughout South East Queensland and northern New South Wales, the N.R.A. actively encourages the involvement of the under 18 year age group through its "Junior Rodeo" program.
Young cowboys and cowgirls are able to join the association as junior members for an affordable annual membership fee plus an initial bond payment. Upon becoming a junior member, a membership card and association Rule Book is issued, and each month the N.R.A. newsletter is mailed out. This informative newsletter contains upcoming rodeos and programs, event standings, notices, association details and information etc.
Presently the N.R.A. rodeo calendar includes 3 junior rodeos solely for junior competitors, which are held at Kingaroy in October and Caboolture in June and November. Junior rodeo's will have events such as the Bull ride, Bareback ride, Saddle Bronc ride, Steer ride, Poddy ride, Barrel race, Breakaway Roping, Pole Bending, Dummy roping, Calf tying, Team Roping and Rope and Tie, and are sectioned into various age categories to allow fairness and equality. All nomination for any junior rodeo held are always taken 10 days prior to the date of the junor rodeo, unless a specific date of nomination is needed. Please check with the NRA office for nomination dates.
Throughout the year, 5 junior events are routinely included in the Open rodeo programs - the Junior Bull ride, Junior Steer Ride, Poddy ride, Junior Barrel race, and Junior Breakaway Roping. These events are included in the highly contested Championship Titles with the worthy recipients receiving specially crafted trophy buckles at the N.R.A. Finals in late November.
Many former junior members have successfully stepped up into the Open ranks of the N.R.A. once they have come of age and can no longer compete as a junior, whilst some existing junior members are presently matching their peers in the open events.
With the association recognising the importance of its junior members competing regularly on the rodeo circuit, enabling them to develop their skills and abilities, plus the continual increasing number of active junior members, the longevity of the N.R.A. is promising with the prospect of many future rodeo talents being discovered.
The National Rodeo Association is proud of its commitment to its junior members and endeavours to provide them with the best opportunities available on the Australian rodeo scene.

IMPORTANT JUNIOR RULES
- Age categories must be strictly adhered to at all times with all Juniors required to produce suitable proof of age (eg. birth certificates). Failure to do so will result in nominations being refused. Any Junior found to be competing in an ineligible event will be disqualified, and subsequently waiver all rights to any prize-money, trophies and points. Day members are required to produce proof of age when completing the Day member paperwork at the N.R.A. Central Entries office of the applicable rodeo.
- All Juniors, even if also competing in Open events, must abide by both Junior and Open rules, including the wearing of helmets relevant to the contested events as per the N.R.A. Rule Book, and in all Rough Stock events the wearing of vests as per the N.R.A. Rule Book. The only exception to this rule is if the member has turned 18 years of age during the Rodeo season and no longer wishes to compete as a Junior member, relinquishing the said Junior membership and therefore only holding Open membership.
- The dress code as per the N.R.A. Rule Book also applies to all Junior competitors.
